Welcome to the (once again) new rizenpoker.com!

I'm sure everyone who has made it here noticed that the look and feel of rizenpoker.com has changed. The wonderful (and might I say quite talented) design team at Lock Poker has done a substantial overhaul to the look and feel of the site. As always, I do appreciate any feedback anyone has on the new site and will take all of it into account.

I'm back home now for a few days before heading back out for the WSOP. The $5k I felt I played really well in and chipped up great, even after losing a pretty big pot in the first 10 hands with pocket kings. With 3 hands left to go in the day though at a completely new table the CO opened the pot. I had no clue how he played but I had QQ so I re-raised him. When it came back around he 4 bet me and at that point I felt like I had to decide if I wanted to go all in or fold. Without knowing much about the player having only been at the table an orbit or two and him raising in the CO and me 3 betting on the button I shoved all in and he snap called with AA. I didn't get there and went from about 75k chips to out at the end of the day. It was a cooler, although if I had been at the table long enough to have a stronger read on the guy maybe I know more and can make a better decision.

I'm disappointed I didn't cash or make a day two while I was out there on the first trip, but hopefully I'm saving all my run good for the later events! I obviously missed 'Ask Rizen' last Friday. Quite honestly with the WSOP I barely even remember what day it is. I will probably be a little hit and miss on the 'Ask Rizen' feature until after the WSOP, although I will do my best to keep doing it every Friday during the Series.

  1. Hey Rizen,

Tough spot to run into there with the Queens. Do you remember the blinds and effective stack and pot sizes in the hand?

Also, love the new design compared to the color scheme you had before, well done!

(updated via Rizen) Was at 500/1000 w/100 ante. I had 75k or so and he had me covered. We were deep but not SUPER deep.

  2. Alright, so he's in the CO and I'm assuming raises to 3 or 4k? You repop to something like 12K, give or take.

    Then he four-bets all-in. So we're looking at 2500 (antes ∧

You have 63K left in your stack, so around 1.4 to 1 on your money. So you need around 42% equity to make a call correct.

You can fold and still have a strong stack given the blinds, although I understand it's hard to give up Queens in a spot like this.

The four-bet is worrying though, especially given stack sizes involved (i.e. he knows you can really damage him)

So we have to figure out what range of hands he's going to make this play against you with. QQ+ certainly, AK probably.

But I'm not sure about JJ and below, or AQ and below. So AA, KK, QQ and AK I'd figure for a four-bet.

I think your 3-bet is perfect, just not sure about calling on the 4-bet. I might make the call too, since our hand is so strong and only a few holdings have us crushed. It's a tough spot to be in.

I couldn't snap call there, I'd have to think for a few minutes and do some calculations.

Anyway, wishing you the best in the ME my man!

  3. Argh, it messed up. I'm saying there's 2500 with antes and blinds, plus 75K from his stack and 12K from your raise, for a pot size of roughly 90K

  4. Also, not trying to be critical, as you have tons more experience and skill in this game than I do.

I'm just trying to analyze the situation and determine how I'd view it. And in the heat of battle, it can be hard to catch all the nuances and get away from strong hands like that.

Because like you said, you win that pot and you're boss man, able to run over the table and accumulate chips for a push towards 1st.

  5. That wasn't how the action went down. It was 4 hands before EoD, he made it 3k, I made it 8500, he made it 22k, I shipped. It's easy since we know I went out to think he has QQ+/AK, but I think that's too narrow of a range. People try and outplay me A LOT. I was 5 bet earlier by A9o and 4 bet by ATo. I don't think we know this guy well enough to say it's QQ+/AKo, especially given that at the end of the day people often try and bully with big stacks. I'm fine with it, although if I knew more about the player that could have made a difference either way.

  6. The new design is ten times better than the previous one, which was a little garish IMO!

Good luck for the rest of the WSOP

  7. My apologies, I thought you called his shove, rather than you were the one shoving.
