Swallowing your pride

Mar 25, 2007 – 10:03AM

I just got a comment from someone naming themselves '3-6 regular':

"Swallowing your pride to play 3-6? So only slum play at this level? What does that mean?"

I think he may have misunderstood me. This isn't a mini brag post, but anyone who has followed me knows that I'm bankrolled to play MUCH higher than 3/6, but yet I play in the 3/6 game anyways sometimes when I don't see juicy higher level games. A lot of players can't swallow their pride and always have to play at the highest level they can.

For some players 'swallowing your pride' could mean moving down to .5/1 from 2/4 when it makes sense. I was not by any means bashing on 3/6 games or their players, just using myself as an example of why game selection and not letting your pride get in the way of profit is important as a cash game player.

  1. I understood your earlier meaning perfectly well Rizen. It is a good point well made. For me, my bankroll says 2/4 would be more than ok for me. Though I only play at 2/4 versus juicy players. Swallowing my pride means that I will often sit at 1/2 in order to turn a profit.

  2. I did take it the wrong way. I have and do follow your game. I have always respected and admired the way you handle your self at the tables.
I grind it out at those levels almost daily, and hope to move up soon. I just felt that comment was discrediting the players and level of play in general.
    Obviously I was wrong.

  3. Hey Rizen, your site is all messed up. The only way I am able to comment like this is using the URL http://rizenpoker.typepad.com/rizen_poker/2007/03/swallowing_your.html
